2026: Why We Must Return to 'Basics' Once More
In an era where it feels like AI solves everything, victory ironically depends on the 'basics.' We explore why data structures, operating systems, and network fundamentals are more powerful weapons in the age of AI.
This is the finale (Part 8) of the Career & Perspective Series.

We live in a stimulating time where new frameworks and models pour out every single day. Many juniors feel rushed, thinking, "I have to study the newest tech that came out today!" But I believe times like these are precisely when we must focus on 'the things that don't change.'
I have summarized 3 reasons why we must return to CS (Computer Science) Fundamentals in 2026.
1. As Abstraction Layers Get Thicker, the 'Bottom' Matters More
AI abstracts many things for us. But when problems occur in those abstracted tools, answering questions like "Why did a network timeout occur?" or "Why was there a memory reference error?" requires a basic understanding of OS and communication. The final 1% of problem-solving always comes from the basics.
2. Algorithms are 'Mental Muscles'
You might have fewer occasions to solve LeetCode problems yourself. However, the 'ability to break down problems and solve them logically' developed while studying algorithms directly translates into the 'prompt design ability' needed to give complex instructions to AI. It is essentially training that improves the processing power of your brain itself.
3. The Vision to Distinguish Technical Debt
90% of trending technologies eventually vanish. A developer with solid fundamentals can see the essence when new tech appears: "Ah, this is just an AI version of X concept that appeared years ago." The ability to see through the hype and pick 'real tech' while others are chasing ghosts comes from the basics.
Series Conclusion
This concludes the Career & Perspective series. Faced with the massive wave of AI agents, what we must not lose is ultimately the 'attitude of thinking humanely, staying faithful to basics, and constantly questioning.'
Tools will keep changing. But your solid fundamentals and perspectives will be an asset that no AI can replace. In the final series, we’ll explore the essence of the Latest Models created from the aggregation of all this knowledge.
